Description

This Sphinx canvas print showcases a close-up shot of the Great Sphinx of Giza, the world's oldest known monument. Despite accurate dating is difficult due to the lack of good contemporary records, estimates put the construction of the Great Sphinx at around 2500BCE, although who the majestic beast was modeled after is lost to antiquity. The Sphinx is portrayed in traditional ancient Egyptian style, with a lion's body and a male human head, and is 241 foot long, 20 foot wide and stands 66.34 foot tall. The Sphinx's nose was lost around 1378CE, reputedly due to vandalism, and it is also considered likely to have been bearded at one point.
