This Trafalgar Statues canvas print showcases a shot of the statue of Charles I from below in the foreground, with a shot of the statue of Admiral Nelson in the background, the 151 foot tall column itself left just out of the frame. The former statue was originally supposed to have been melted down after Charles' execution following the Parliamentarians' victory in the English Civil War of 1642 - 1651, but was saved and hidden by the Royalist metalsmith charged with the duty, until the Restoration of 1660 allowed the statue to be installed in Trafalgar Square as originally intended.
