Description

Tower Bridge takes its name from the nearby Tower of London and not, strangely, from the iconic twin-tower design that the bridge itself has become famous for. It is a combination bascule-suspension bridge, a popular landmark representing the city of London. The two strong towers to either side of the drawbridge take the weight of the walkways as they rise upwards, while the operating machinery and other systems are contained below each of the towers.
