At the beginning of World War II, England’s Ministry of Information developed a series of posters designed to boost the morale of the populace in the event of a sustained enemy bombing raid which did not immediately materialise. As a result, the poster was never actually displayed and remained unknown to the public until a decade ago, when it was rediscovered in the back room of an independent book shop. Following its rediscovery, the original poster featuring the five-word slogan ‘Keep Calm And Carry On’ became incredibly popular, no doubt because it perfectly encapsulated the traditional British manner of approaching life.
