The two galaxies in question are known as the Antennae Galaxies, due to their long 'arms'. The collision depicted in this Two Galaxies Colliding canvas print began over 100 million years ago, and continues today, forming millions of stars in the process. Already, some of the largest of these baby stars have had their time and exploded, the resulting supernovas leaving rich deposits of new elements which will in turn become more stars, and more planets.
