Discovered in 1947, the light from the exploding star is believed to have originally reached Earth over three centuries ago, and may be the fabled 'noon day star' that supposedly heralded the birth of King Charles II. Even now, the radiation emitted is over a billion times more energetic than the visible light spectrum, and assists astrophysicists in studying nearby celestial objects and phenomena.
